Below are some of the fantastic artists who have performed at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival!
Michael Rooney and June McCormack
The now husband-and-wife duo, Draiocht, is Michael Rooney and June McCormack. Draiocht, which means magic in Irish, certainly describes their music together. Both All-Ireland champion players on their respective instruments, Michael on harp and June on flute, they complement each other with seemingly effortless energy and tightness at a buoyant tempo. They have been described as “formidable technicians as well as masters of the traditional idiom.”
They have substantial music credentials. In addition to winning a number of the prestigious harp competitions in Ireland, Michael has been the music producer of several of the Comhaltas Echoes of Erin tours in Britain and the U.S. He was commissioned to write a suite of music by the History of Ireland Performance Company to commemorate The Great Famine and from that produced a CD entitled “Ocras”. He has recorded with numerous other artists as well.June was named Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 1998 by TG4 and performed with the band Síona, which released the acclaimed CD “Launching the Boat” in 1998. Michael and June released a new CD, Draiocht, in April
