Lever Harp Teacher's Symposium
May 30 -June 1, 2008
The Somerset Folk Harp Festival will produce
an intense weekend workshop experience for teachers who use the
lever harp:
The
Somerset Lever Harp Teachers Symposium,
May 30, 31, and June 1, 2008,
at the Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs, PA.
The
agenda will be planned and taught
by three outstanding performers,
teachers and proponents of the
harp: Elizabeth Etters Asmus, Sally
Perreten, and Ray
Pool. These fine harpists also play pedal harp, but the emphasis
of this weekend Symposium will be for teachers of the lever harp. That is,
the traditional single course, nylon or gut string harp. The singularities
of the wire strung, double strung and cross-strung will not be addressed. The
agenda will be designed to meet the needs of prospective teachers as well as
existent teachers who wish to improve/add to their skills, address problem
areas in teaching, develop new ways to present musical ideas, and experience
new repertoire.
The workshops will be intense: a real workout for your brain and fingers!
The weekend schedule will allow teachers to attend without having to take significant
time away from work or school. Friday is a late arrival day with an informal
gathering and concert played by the three workshop presenters. Saturday will
be a very full day of workshops. Sunday will be intense, but departure will
be no later than 3:00 pm. With longer daylight, many participants can drive
home and arrive before dark.
The Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs,
PA www.allenberry.com will be the host venue. Allenberry offers a lovely
country setting without distractions. The Symposium will be held in the 32-
room Meadow Lodge. Additional hotel rooms are within the local area, but registration
for the Symposium will be limited.
Allenberry is 192 miles from New York City, 138 miles from Washington DC, and
170 miles from Pittsburgh. So reaching Allenberry is within a four hour drive
for many folks on the East Coast. The nearest airport is Harrisburg, PA.
