Exciting news about Somerset
on the Potomac 2008!
1) This Festival will
offer a Family-friendly vacation. The hotel is located just outside Washington DC
, and offer free shuttle service to the nearest Metro (Subway)
stop. From there one can travel by Metro to the Smithsonian,
the Zoo, the monuments - all that Washington has to offer.
2) Arrive early on Thursday July 10 to beat
the rush hour traffice. The Vendor
Hall will be open on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
3) Also on Thursday, Sue
Richards will lead a "Tune Trade" from 4:00 - 6:00. Bring a tune to
share, either teaching by ear or with sheet music, learn
new tunes from the other folks.
4) Lovely live harp music
in the lobby on Thursday
from 2:00 - 7:00 provided by members of the Washington Area
Folk Harp Society. Music in the lobby at lunchtime on Friday
and Saturday provided by special guests.
5) Reception on Thursday
after the concert -
meet and greet your fellow harpers! The banquet with live
harp music will be Saturday 5:30 - 7:00.
6) New Sunday schedule will allow you to attend
the workshops and concerts before heading home by 1:30. Check

7) See
the Performers page for a list of the concert performers
and the workshop presenters. New to the East Coast this
year are John Metras, the Cross-strung harp wiz from California
, and Corinna Hewat from Scotland , as well as Cynthy Johnson
from Richmond , andMartha Gallagher, the Adirondack Harper.

8) Build a harp at the
Festival! Backyard Music
will again conduct harp and instrument building workshops
using their kits. More details TBA! |

Features for Visitors:
Can't attend the whole Festival?
Be a "Visitor"! You can visit the Exhibit Hall
for $15 per day! For the evening concerts tickets may
be available for $25 each. See the concert page for a complete
schedule. Visitors may attend the I've Always Wanted to Play
the Harp workshops. Admission to Single workshops will be
sold on site on a space available basis. The fee of $60 includes
admission to the Exhibit Hall the same day as the workshop.
I've
Always Wanted to Play the Harp Workshops - Friday
and Saturday. An experienced local teacher will give a
hands-on orientation to the folk harp. If you've always
dreamed of playing the harp but never had the opportunity
to see how beautiful , accessible, portable and affordable
these small harps can be, now is your chance! Workshops
will take place in the Exhibit Hall and are included in
the price of a "Visitor" admission.
